Slowburn is built around that one idea.
Some people read a book and put it down. Some of us read a book and walk around for a week with it still in us: rereading a chapter on the bus, texting a friend at midnight because she chose him, refusing to start anything else until the ache fades. Slowburn is made for the second kind.
Most reading apps are built to count. Books per year, pages per day, a streak to protect. The count was never the point. The point was what the book did to you, and the fact that you would like to remember it.
What Slowburn is
A reading home for romance readers, in three parts that belong together. The app is a journal first: your shelf, your progress, your rating and spice, your tropes and moods, the line you kept and the note you didn’t show anyone. You tell the book how badly it has you, one flame at a time, and it draws the curve. At the end of a month you get a dossier. Over time you get a Reading Identity that says, with receipts, what kind of reader you are.
The Journal is our publication: the books, tropes and obsessions we can’t stop thinking about, written by people who read this way. The community begins close, with a circle of people you chose and books read together, and is growing toward a genuine social home for romance readers, built around taste rather than follower count.
What we believe
Private by default, social by choice. Everything in the journal is a plain function of what you wrote: no AI reading your notes, no personality test, no conclusion about you as a person. The insights show which books they came from, because you should be able to argue with them. What becomes public is always your decision, one door at a time.
And atmosphere matters. A place for readers should feel like one.
How it’s made
Slowburn is independently built and reader-shaped. There is no feed to feed and no advertiser to serve. The free journal is a real journal without limits; Premium is the deeper reading, and it is what pays for the rest.
